To clean window tint without damaging it, it's best to use mild, non-ammonia based cleaners. Here's a simple method:
- Prepare a Solution: Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with water in a spray bottle.
- Spray the Solution: Spray the solution onto the tinted window surface.
- Gently Wipe: Use a soft microfiber cloth or sponge to gently wipe the surface in a circular motion.
- Dry: Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to dry the window thoroughly.
Avoid using harsh chemicals, ammonia-based cleaners, or abrasive materials like paper towels, as these can damage the tint. Always test any cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn't cause any adverse effects.
It is best to wait a minimum of 3-5 dry days.
Standard tint film and ceramic tint film differ primarily in the materials used and their performance characteristics:
-
Materials:
- Standard Tint Film: Typically made from dyed polyester or metallized film. These films use dyes to absorb solar energy and reduce heat and glare.
- Ceramic Tint Film: Made from ceramic particles that are non-metallic and non-conductive. These particles are typically embedded in a layer of adhesive or polyester.
-
Heat Rejection:
- Standard Tint Film: Offers moderate heat reduction compared to untreated windows.
- Ceramic Tint Film: Provides superior heat rejection capabilities. Ceramic films can block a higher percentage of infrared (IR) rays, which are responsible for heat buildup inside a vehicle or building.
-
Glare Reduction:
- Standard Tint Film: Provides some glare reduction but may not be as effective as ceramic films.
- Ceramic Tint Film: Offers excellent glare reduction, improving visibility and comfort, especially during bright sunny days or nighttime driving.
-
UV Protection:
- Standard Tint Film: Provides UV protection, but the level can vary depending on the film's specifications.
- Ceramic Tint Film: Typically offers higher UV protection compared to standard tint films. Ceramic films can block a significant percentage of harmful UV rays, which helps in protecting the interior of a vehicle or building from fading and deterioration.
-
Appearance:
- Standard Tint Film: Can sometimes have a slight metallic or reflective appearance, depending on the type of film.
- Ceramic Tint Film: Often has a neutral or non-reflective appearance, providing a more natural look while still offering excellent performance.
-
Durability:
- Standard Tint Film: May be prone to fading, discoloration, or bubbling over time, especially in extreme weather conditions.
- Ceramic Tint Film: Generally more durable and resistant to fading or discoloration, making it a longer-lasting option.
While ceramic tint films tend to be more expensive upfront compared to standard tint films, their superior performance and durability can make them a worthwhile investment, especially for those looking for long-term benefits such as improved comfort, UV protection, and aesthetics.
